It really is embarrassing to hear that word in 2020. Am I missing something here? Why are you all so mad about ONE word being censored? Maybe you’re the sensitive ones. It was never a Xmas song. It is a social commentary that the juxtaposition of impoverished misery on the idyll of 'Xmas' was used to emphasize the misfortune of a social class who have come to accept their loss of hope and the acknowledgment of their delusions. I'm not fussed as I don't listen to R1 anyway and the other version is fine. I do wonder though where they draw the line between music and offense and so many songs contain lyrics that could be considered offensive by one group or another - many are quite misogynistic for instance. In this case, I don't even think that word was used in a homophobic context - that wasn't the meaning behind it.
